Meet the Founder

Kyle Marchuk moved to the Yukon in 2005 and quickly fell in love with the northern landscape. When he first arrived, he lived on a 300-acre elk farm along the Takhini River. Surrounded by mountains, horses in the fields, and the sound of elk bugling in the distance, the experience left a lasting impression. That winter the northern lights were especially spectacular, and it was there that Kyle decided the Yukon was a place he wanted to build a life. It was also in the Yukon that he met his wife and her daughter, and together they built their home in the North.

Over time Kyle developed an interest in northern agriculture and discovered the potential of the haskap berry — a hardy fruit that thrives in cold climates. Research has shown that haskaps grown at northern latitudes may produce berries with higher antioxidant levels and nutritional value. Nearly ten years after arriving in the Yukon, Kyle planted the first haskap farm just minutes from where he had originally lived. What began as an experiment in northern farming eventually led to the creation of Yukon’s first commercial winery and cidery, now recognized as Canada’s northernmost winery, producing small-batch wines and ciders under the Solstice brand.
